Ethernet 802.1ag Fault Management Across Domains

Ethernet 802.1ag/Y.1731 Connectivity Fault Management (CFM) was designed for monitoring Ethernet circuits in a single domain network. Before it can be deployed for VLANs spanning multiple (research) networks, some choices need to be made. In this presentation, the following seven open issues will be discussed. 1. Continuity Check or Link Trace 2. Who deploys it 3. Transparent transmission 4. Domain Identifier 5. MD level 6. Monitoring Point Identifiers 7. Time interval between Continuity Checks
