IPv6 multicast - beyond the link level scope

Multicast is an important component of the IPv6 protocol, it replaces broadcast for many parts of the IPv6 protocol suite (Neighbor Discovery, DHCPv6, routing protocols ..). This multicast is all on the local link, and does not require any extra configuration steps. But there is more to IPv6 multicast than link-local. In the light of IPv6 transition, network administrators will look for ways to streamline their network design and make use of advanced IPv6 features. Multicast can help reducing the complexity of IP networks. This talk will explain the use and limits of Admin-/Organization-/Site-Local and Global multicast deployments, with special focus on DNS, DHCPv6 and Network Time Services.
