Internet’s evolution

Four decades after the Internet was established, the organizations it serves, the technologies that drive it, and the applications it supports have changed dramatically. The unpredictable and transformative results have changed the way more than two billion people connect and communicate today. At this point in the Internet’s evolution, it is important to understand the invariants that have defined it to date. Research and innovation are key to ensuring that the Internet's future is as bright and breath-taking as we have experienced to date. The Internet Society promotes an Internet that serves as platform for innovation, economic development, and social progress--even as it continues to grow and evolve.
