Panel discussion: how can industry help us to be green? Save to my Google calendar

The environmental impact of networks is a "hot issue" nowadays. On the one hand networks can have a positive environmental effect (for example, travel being replaced by videoconferencing), but on the other hand data networks themselves contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions and hence global warming. Research networking organisations try to limit those negative effects by running their networks in a more energy efficient way and by reducing the carbon footprint of their equipment, operation centres and offices. This year's conference being in Iceland, it is interesting to acknowledge that data centres are being moved to countries and regions where energy is cheap and green, and cooling is also easy.

In this session, representatives of TERENA members from industry will highlight in short presentations how their own company can help European research networking to be more green. This will be followed by a discussion between the speakers and the audience.
