Rodney G. Wilson directs Ciena’s Global interaction and collaboration program with universities and government research organizations. Ciena actively conducts scientific research concerning next generation photonics and architectures and in doing so funds several university research programs. Additionally, he is responsible for Ciena’s participation with Research and Education networks worldwide. In March 2010, Ciena purchased the Optical business assets from Nortel where Mr. Wilson was employed in technology research division primarily concerning Nortel’s pre-product Optical Ethernet WAN and strategy. Mr. Wilson has held several other technology and management positions including Motorola ISG as global director of the Frame Relay portfolio, the University of Toronto, where he was chief network architect for the university’s on-line bibliographic reserch services in Canada, Japan, Europe and the United States. And prior roles in both industry and communications service provider businesses. Mr. Wilson was originally trained in electronics engineering at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto and business strategy at Stanford University in California.
